How to Grant Sunset Power of Attorney (POA)

By signing up for Sunset, you have already granted us Power of Attorney to act on behalf of the estate using our Terms of Use. However, sometimes organizations like banks, and government agencies, will require the estate provide a notarized power of attorney. If this happens, follow these steps for complete the power of attorney for Sunset:

1. Sunset will email you a PDF form with the specific language required by the reqesting party. Typically this PDF will have all items filled out, however if there are a few items remaining, please add them either in the PDF form on the computer, or print the document out and fill it out by hand.

2. To complete the notarization, you can call your bank, law firm, or find a notary. You'll want to call in advance to schedule an appointment. Be sure to bring the document with you, as well as a government ID and the will or trust if requested by the notary.

3. If you'd prefer to use an online service for notarization, we recommend Notarize, which costs $25 and is available in every State.

4. After you've finished the notarization process, please send Sunset a copy via email, or upload through the app. Keep the physical copy in a safe place, as a backup. If necessary, you can provide copies of the signed POA to relevant parties, such as Sunset representatives and financial institutions.
